Living the life of a rock star includes a complete change of habits and wardrobe. The most common outfit includes tight jeans, rock T shirts and all sorts of rocking accessories. But being a true blue rocker goes beyond what the eyes can see.
Do you really want to be a rock star? It takes more than just banging your head, wearing concert t-shirts and rock band merchandise, and collecting punk rock memorabilia. It involves a serious study of music and plenty of organizational skills, believe it or not.
The first thing to do is learn how to sing, really sing. If you look closely at Steven Tyler, Axl Rose, and Mick Jagger, you would see that it’s really their singing abilities that set them apart, more than their crazy antics, long hair, and wild outfits. Nobody can belt better than these guys.
Spend a good amount of practice and voice exercise. If you’re done practicing, practice some more. Exercise your vocal cords and belt out those notes.
Learn how to play an instrument. It’s never too late to learn how to play a musical instrument, the most basic of which is the guitar. There are tons of free on-line guitar lessons that are easy to understand with enough motivation and determination.
After a few weeks and months of stretching your vocal instrument and trying to perfect your first musical instrument, it’s time to put them together. Sing to yourself in the mirror; sing to your friends; put up your own garage rock concert; put on your best Rock T shirt, and know what it feels like to be a rock star. After the claps or boos are done, though, practice some more.
Practice, practice, practice, and don’t stop believing. Believe in yourself and never lose hope. If you got exhausted from your first “concert”, whether it is a success or not, take a few day’s rest before getting some more practice.
Another thing you can do is form your own rock band. Rock stars and artists are often great leaders, too, even the solo artists. The late great Michael Jackson was a very efficient leader as he managed everything during his concerts – lights, sounds, choreography, set, performers, production and so on.
And there’s the really serious stuff, which includes writing your own music, recording your own music, playing at gigs, and trying to land a record deal. While not everybody can write, no one can stop you from trying and penning down your thoughts, lyrics and melody, which is perhaps the most crucial first step towards your road to fame or detour to another career. However, if you have the voice, the musical prowess and an awesome rocking band to back you up, you may just end up bagging major gigs performing hit covers.
Finally, whether you make a recording or not—whether you perform at clubs, gigs, or concerts or not—you can always grow your hair long, put on worn-out jeans, and rock T shirts to live out the part. Be your own rock star if you must. After all, no one ever said you could not be your own audience.
